Ms. Coleman also studied at Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma in 1979-1981 where she hosted a successful cable TV program on KEY-TV 3 called the “Guitar Workshop”. Bonnie Lou has traveled extensively, including as an arts education ambassador to Cuba, as well as to Spain and Italy to study with the guitar greats such as; Jose Tomas, Alirio Diaz, F. Moreno Torroba, Robert Guthrie, Enric Madrigera, Christopher Parkening and Andre Segovia. She began her formal musical studies at the Royal Conservatory of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, at the age of 15, where she taught underclassmen to pay her tuition. In 1999 Bonnie Lou was permanently physically disabled by a freak/tragic bicycle accident, where she fell into a dry concrete canal in West Phoenix, resulting in fourteen surgical procedures. Happily her musical and artistic skills have remained intact. Bonnie Lou started painting on canvas early in life, a skill introduced to her as a child by a great aunt. She continued these art studies at the university level over a period of more than 15 years as the electives in her degree programs. Bonnie-Lou also enjoys researching, writing and illustrating family friendly stories. She particularly enjoys helping her students write and illustrate their own stories. She and her students have been well recognized in several contest and competitions, frequently sweeping first and second place awards in acrylic, watercolor, multimedia, literary offerings and craft arts; such as puppets and sock monkey/creations, hat and purse making and beaded jewelry construction. Ms. Coleman joyfully maintains a home art/music studio. Her favorite artistic subject matter includes exotic animals, classic cars and accurate detailed astronomical events. Her life goal is to provide opportunities for local families to share art, music, theater and literary experiences in a friendly, noncompetitive atmosphere.
